What are the treatment options for erysipelas?

Since erysipelas is a bacterial infection, it is usually treated with antibiotics. Penicillin is a typical treatment. Usually, the antibiotics can be taken orally, but in more serious cases they may need to be administered using an IV (intravenous line). Most people can stop treatment when the infection is fully clear, but people who have recurring cases of erysipelas may need to be on their antibiotics on a more constant basis.
