How do medications treat dysentery?

For serious cases of dysentery, antibiotics are used. Antibiotics lessen the severity of symptoms such as intestinal pain, fever and diarrhea. Antibiotics eventually kill the bacteria most commonly associated with an infection causing dysentery.
