Can very young children have autism spectrum disorders?

Very young children can have autism spectrum disorders, in fact, many cases are diagnosed before the child is two years old. The age of diagnosis may depend on a child's specific symptoms and the severity of those symptoms. Mild forms, such as Asperger's syndrome, may not be diagnosed until children are in school.

Sometimes early warning signs of autism can be seen as early as 18 months in a child although they wont be officially diagnosed until a little later. Early intervention such as speech, physical, occupational and ABA therapy can all prove to be helpful to your child even if starting at this very young age.
