Is Asperger's syndrome one of the autism spectrum disorders?

Asperger syndrome, or Asperger's, is a term that is no longer used as a formal diagnosis. In current diagnostic criteria, the syndrome is included under the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders. It generally has mild symptoms, and children with this form of ASD can function well in many situations. Symptoms include repetitive behaviors, obsessive interests, overly sensitive to noises and textures, and an extremely literal use of language.
