Cardiac arrhythmia means the heart has no rhythm. There are a variety of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation.

Cardiac arrhythmia means that the regular speed and timing of the heartbeat is now abnormal. There are many types of arrhythmias, caused by a wide variety of issues. Many arrhythmias are benign, meaning not at all dangerous, and some can be life threatening. Some can be felt by the patient as palpitations, shortness of breath or chest pain. An electrocardiogram can often diagnose the problem, but occasionally more specialized tests are necessary.
