How effective is acitretin?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

Acitretin is not highly effective when used alone. But it is often taken along with ultraviolet (UV) light therapy. This combination works better than either treatment alone. People with severe psoriasis who don't get relief with a single drug may be given acitretin along with the biologic drug etanercept.
