What are the side effects of mitoxantrone?

Mitoxantrone can cause heart damage, possibly leading to heart failure. This can happen while taking the drug or after the drug is stopped. Some people taking this drug for MS have developed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Infections in the lungs and airways, urinary tract, or other parts of the body are common. Other side effects may include headaches, weakness, canker sores, back or abdominal pain, and hair loss. Women may have heavy or missed periods.
