How does Eloxatin (oxaliplatin) treat colon and rectal cancer?

Eloxatin (oxaliplatin) works by killing colon and rectal cancer cells. It also interrupts the growth process for cancer cells, preventing them from developing further. Normal, healthy cells may also be killed in the process, which causes some of the negative side effects of the drug.
