Can ibritumomab have serious side effects?

Ibritumomab (brand name Zevalin) may have serious side effects that include increased risk of infection, flu-like symptoms, pain or headaches. It can also cause vomiting, diarrhea or unusual bruising or bleeding. There are treatment options to help manage or minimize these side effects. Severe reactions can occur as the drug is administered, so a health provider will watch you closely. Also, the radiation dose you are exposed to while receiving Zevalin may lead to secondary cancers like leukemia.

If you develop a high fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling of your lips or throat, or feel dizzy or confused, tell your doctor right away. These may be signs of a possible allergic reaction to ibritumomab.
