Are there any risks in taking Velcade (bortezomib)?

Velcade (bortezomib) can increase the risk of birth defects in pregnant women and should not be used while breastfeeding because it can harm your baby. It may interact with some vitamins and supplements, including St. John's Wort. It may not be appropriate for those with a history of herpes infection; or heart, liver or kidney problems; who smoke or drink alcohol; with blood pressure problems; with high cholesterol, with diabetes or with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The drug can interact with a number of medications, so tell your doctor about any medications you take or have taken before taking Velcade.
