Are there any risks in taking Camptosar?

Camptosar (irinotecan) may decrease your immune system’s ability to fight off infections, so you should avoid anyone who has the flu or other infectious illness, or who has recently received a live vaccine. A common side effect of Camptosar is severe diarrhea, so you need to take precautions reduce your risk of dehydration or kidney failure. Camptosar can harm an unborn child, so women who are pregnant or who are planning to become pregnant should avoid this drug. It is not known whether Camptosar passes into breast milk, so tell your doctor whether you are nursing before starting treatment.
