What should I know about romidepsin before receiving it?

Before receiving romidepsin, you should be aware of how various illnesses are affected by this medication. Romidepsin can increase the risk of serious or even fatal infections such as pneumonia and sepsis. If you have had a prolonged QT interval, an uncommon heart condition that causes fainting, an irregular heartbeat or even unexpected death, tell your doctor before receiving romidepsin. You should also be cautious about receiving this medication if you have too much or not enough magnesium or potassium in your blood. If you have kidney, liver or heart disease, you should talk with your doctor before receiving romidepsin. In addition, if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding you may not be able to use romidepsin. Your doctor may tell you not to take hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills) while receiving romidepsin.
Talk to your doctor if you are taking antibiotics or medications, such as Biaxin, E.E.S, E-Mycin, Erythrocin, Avelox, Coumadin, Ketek, Sporanox, Nizoral, Vfend, Epitol, Equetro, Tegretol, Crixivan, Dilantin, Orap, Procanbid, Pronestyl, Viracept, Kaletra, Norvir, Reyataz, Norpace, Invirase, Mycobutin, Tikosyn, Quinidex, Cordarone, Betapace, Betapace AF, Rifadin, Rifamate, Rifater, Rimactane, Priftin, Zagam and Mellaril. These drugs may increase your risk for side effects while taking romidepsin. Inform your doctor about all nonprescription and prescription drugs that you are taking. Vitamins and herbs can negatively interact with romidepsin. After receiving romidepsin, let your doctor know if you experience any unusual side effects.
