Yes, frovatriptan may interact with other medications. You should inform your doctor about all drugs, vitamins or herbs you take. Frovatriptan belongs to a class of medications known as selective serotonin receptor agonists. When you are taking it, avoid taking any other drugs in this class within 24 hours. Examples include the following:

  • zolmitriptan (Zomig)
  • almotriptan (Axert)
  • eletriptan (Relpax)
  • naratriptan (Amerge)
  • rizatriptan (Maxalt)
  • sumatriptan (Imitrex)

Also, within 24 hours, avoid medications that belong to the class known as "ergot-type." Examples of these include the following:

  • ergotamine (Bellergal-S, Cafergot, Ergomar, Wigraine)
  • bromocriptine (Parlodel)
  • cabergoline (Dostinex)
  • dihydroergotamine (DHE 45, Migranal)
  • ergoloid mesylates (Germinal, Hydergine)
  • ergonovine (Ergotrate)
  • methylergonovine
  • methysergide (Sansert)
  • pergolide (Permax)

Also take particular care to discuss with your doctor any of the following:

  • oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
  • propranolol (Inderal)

Finally, discuss with your doctor any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or selective serotonin or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), such as the following:

  • citalopram (Celexa)
  • escitalopram (Lexapro)
  • fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem, Symbyax)
  • fluvoxamine
  • paroxetine (Paxil)
  • sertraline (Zoloft)
  • duloxetine (Cymbalta)
  • venlafaxine (Effexor)
