Will Micardis HCT cure my high blood pressure?

Micardis HCT (telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide) is not a cure for high blood pressure, but it can help you to control your blood pressure and bring it into a healthier range. The two active ingredients in Micardis HCT help to lower blood pressure in different ways. Telmisartan is in a category of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers, or ARBs. These drugs help blood vessels stay open by blocking the artery-constricting effects of a chemical called angiotensin. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic; it reduces blood pressure by helping your body excrete excess water and salt into the urine.

Because Micardis HCT is a treatment for high blood pressure but not a cure, you should not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well.
