What should I avoid while taking nisoldipine?

There are a number of medications, as well as some foods or drinks, to avoid while taking nisoldipine. In particular, the medication phenytoin should not be taken with nisoldipine. Other drugs that may interact with nisoldipine include cimetidine, fentanyl, and rifampin as well as beta-blocker medications, diuretics, and HIV protease inhibitor drugs. You should not drink alcohol while taking nisoldipine as it can cause excessive drowsiness, lightheadedness, or dizziness. Don't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking nisoldipine. Avoid a high fat meal around the time you take this medication. Be careful about using salt substitutes that contain potassium while you are taking nisoldipine.
