What should seniors know before using Hyzaar?

Before using Hyzaar (losartan and hydrochlorothiazide) for high blood pressure, seniors should know that studies have found that the drug stays just as effective as people age. However, if you're a senior considering Hyzaar, you should know whether your kidneys are working well enough to clear it from your body -- if they don't clear it promptly, there is a greater risk for a toxic reaction. Have your kidney function checked before using Hyzaar. You should also have your liver and heart function checked.

Seniors should also check with their doctor to make sure they aren't taking any medications that could interact negatively with Hyzaar. Your doctor may need to modify your medication plan, dosage or timing.
