What is the proper dosage of labetalol?

Your doctor will base your proper dosage of labetalol (Trandate) on your medical history and condition. General dosage guidelines for adults are as follows:
  • Usually, the starting dose is 100 milligrams (mg), taken twice daily, alone or with a diuretic (water pill).
  • Your blood pressure is checked for two to three days. 
  • Your doctor may then begin increasing your dose. 
  • Regular doses range from 200 to 400 mg, twice a day. 
  • Some people may require 1,200 to 2,400 mg daily. Your doctor will monitor you and adjust your dosage as needed.
