What should I avoid while taking Univasc?

While you are taking the blood pressure drug Univasc, you should avoid using potassium supplements or a salt substitute that contains potassium unless you talk with your doctor first. Using these while you're on Univasc can make your blood potassium level rise dangerously.

You should also avoid activities that will cause you to perspire excessively, or doing anything that might cause dehydration. Becoming dehydrated while taking Univasc can cause your blood pressure to drop too low, leading to dizziness or fainting.

You should avoid becoming pregnant while taking Univasc, because the drug may cause severe birth defects or even be fatal to a developing fetus. If you find out you are pregnant while taking Univasc, stop taking it immediately and talk to your doctor about alternatives.
