What is nifedipine?

Nifedipine is a prescription calcium-channel blocker medication. It is primarily used to treat angina (chest pain associated with clogged arteries) and high blood pressure, and less commonly used in cases of Raynaud's syndrome or preterm labor. Nifedipine stops the narrowing effect calcium has on blood vessels. Wider vessels make it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body, and helps keep blood pressure low.
