What is Benicar?

Benicar, or olmesartan medoxomil, is a tablet used to treat high blood pressure. Benicar is called an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It might be prescribed with other blood pressure drugs. Benicar helps to control the angiotensin II that is in the blood, helping blood vessels from becoming too narrow and controlling blood pressure. There are three different doses of Benicar, and it also comes in another form, Benicar HCT (olmesartan medoxomil with hydrochlorothiazide). Benicar can be taken by adults and children over six years of age, but it should not be used by pregnant women or people who have had allergic reactions to olmesartan.
