Does Avapro interact with food or alcohol?

The blood pressure medication Avapro (irbesartan) doesn't react with specific foods, but while you're on it, your doctor may want you to stick to a low-sodium diet. Do not take potassium supplements or use salt substitutes that contain potassium while you're on Avapro without checking with your doctor first, as these may cause the levels of potassium in your blood to become too high.

If you drink alcohol while taking Avapro, your blood pressure could dip lower than if you were taking the drug alone. Talk to your doctor about whether you should drink while on Avapro.
