What drugs may interact with calcium channel blockers?

If you...

  • Are taking a beta blocker or a QTc interval prolonging drug - Calcium channel blockers can lead to serious side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking a moderate or strong CYP3A4 inducer, dabrafenib, doxorubicin, eliglustat, fusidic acid, tizanidine, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, lovastatin or simvastatin, or a vasopressin antagonist - Calcium channel blockers can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking an azole antifungal colchicine, fosphenytoin, mifepristone, or phenytoin - A calcium channel blocker may not be a good option for you
  • Are taking a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor - Nisoldipine can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking disopyramide, dofetilide, or flecainide - Verapamil may not be a good option for you
  • Are taking amiodarone, lithium, or oxycodone - Diltiazem and verapamil may not be good options for you
  • Are taking rifampin - Diltiazem can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking citalopram or thioridazine - Nicardipine can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking dantrolene, flibanserin, idelalisib, ivabradine, lomitapide, naloxegol, olaparib, pimozide, a protease inhibitor, sonidegib, trabectedin, or ulipristal - Diltiazem and verapamil can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Are taking silodosin, topotecan, or vincristine - Verapamil and nicardipine can lead to side effects and should be avoided
  • Take a calcium channel blocker - You should avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice. If you take nifedipine, you should also avoid St. John's wort.
