Can I use Atacand if I am taking a diuretic?

The blood pressure medication Atacand (candesartan) is sometimes prescribed along with a diuretic (water pill). The two medications both lower blood pressure, but through different mechanisms. Atacand's active ingredient (candesartan) lessens the constriction of blood vessels so that blood can flow more smoothly. Diuretics lower blood pressure by helping remove excess water and salt from your body. If you're taking both types of medications, your doctor is likely to carefully coordinate your dosages.
