Can I take Micardis if I have a history of heart failure?

If you have a history of heart failure, make sure your doctor knows before you begin treatment with the high blood pressure medication Micardis (telmisartan). As an angiotensin II blocker (ARB), Micardis can cause urinary problems in people with heart failure that could result in kidney failure. It also may lead to hyperkalemia, a dangerous condition in which blood levels of potassium become too high.
