If I am pregnant, is it safe to take Travatan Z?

It isn't known if Travatan Z (travoprost) is safe to take during pregnancy. In animal studies, high doses of Travatan Z caused damage to embryos. Animal results don't always apply to humans, however, and Travatan Z, which is used to treat glaucoma, has not been studied in pregnant women.

If you're pregnant or plan to become pregnant, talk to your doctor to help balance the risk to you of glaucoma or high pressure inside your eye against the possible risk to your pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Travatan Z, tell your doctor right away. Also, if you do take Travatan Z while you are pregnant, be careful not to get it on your hands, and wash your hands carefully after you use it.
