How soon will my symptoms improve when I take fluconazole?

With fluconazole, how quickly you improve depends on your condition. Here are some guidelines:

  • Oropharyngeal candidiasis, an infection of the throat. This should improve after several days. But treatment may continue for at least two weeks. This decreases the chances of the condition returning.
  • Esophageal candidiasis, an infection of the esophagus. Treatment usually lasts for at least three weeks. Once symptoms improve, take it for at least two more weeks.
  • Cryptococcal meningitis, a brain infection. Treatment usually lasts about 10 to 12 weeks.
