What are the side effects of ketoconazole?

Some serious side effects of ketoconazole tablets, shampoo, foam, gel and cream include: hives, rash, itching, difficulty swallowing or breathing and suicidal thoughts. Other serious side effects of ketoconazole tablets include: unusual fatigue, anorexia, nausea and/or vomiting, jaundice, dark urine or pale stools. You should contact you doctor if you experience any of these side effects. Because of the risk of liver damage or dangerous interactions with other drugs, oral ketoconazole should never be the first-choice treatment for a fungal infection.

Other less serious reactions are stomach pain and depression. Ketoconazole shampoo may cause hair discoloration, changes in hair texture or hair loss.
