What should I know about Gris-PEG before taking it?

Before taking Gris-PEG, you should be aware of the following safety information:
  • This medication should be taken with a high fat meal to increase absorption.
  • Gris-PEG may increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight. (To prevent severe burns on your skin while taking it, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, wear sunscreen and protective clothing when outside and avoid tanning beds.)
  • Women should not become pregnant while taking this medication.
  • Since Gris-PEG may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills, women should use another reliable form of birth control (such as condoms) while taking it.
  • Because Gris-PEG may affect sperm, men should wait at least six months after finishing treatment before fathering a child.
