Who should not take Vistaril?

Do not take Vistaril, a brand name for hydroxyzine, if you are pregnant. It could harm your unborn baby, especially during the first trimester. Use birth control, and if you do become pregnant, tell your doctor you took Vistaril. Do not use the medication if you are allergic to hydroxyzine. If you are nursing, talk to your doctor before using Vistaril. If you have certain medical conditions, you can take Vistaril but need to discuss dosage and special precautions with your doctor. These include seizure disorders, asthma, glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, stomach ulcer, thyroid disorder, an enlarged prostate, liver disease and kidney disease. People over the age of 65 may have more side effects from Vistaril than younger people.
