What is ondansetron hydrochloride Injection?

Ondansetron hydrochloride injection is a medication used to stop nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer or general surgery. It belongs to a class of medications called 5-HT3 receptor antagonist and works by blocking serotonin, the natural substance that may cause nausea or vomiting. It is a liquid medication that is injected into the vein or muscle by a healthcare professional at a clinic.The drug is administered 30 minutes before chemotherapy or radiation treatment;  it may also be given before surgery. A second dose may be administered four or eight hours after the first dose. This prescription medication is also available under the brand name Zofran.
