What are metoclopramide orally disintegrating tablets?

Metoclopramide ODT (orally disintegrating tablets) treats gastroparesis (slow emptying of the stomach) in people who have diabetes. Gastroparesis is a condition that can cause vomiting, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea, and feelings of fullness after eating. This prescription drug also treats people who have persistent heartburn from gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). It is used for short-term treatment of GERD in those who do not find relief from other medications.

Metoclopramide ODT works by blocking certain chemicals in your brain to increase muscle contractions in the upper digestive tract. This helps speed up the time it takes for the stomach to empty into the intestines.

These tablets disintegrate on the tongue and do not require water. They are helpful for people who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Metoclopramide ODT is the generic name for this drug. It is also available under the brand name Metozolv ODT.
