Are there any risks in taking Emend?

Risks associated with taking Emend include allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and interactions with other medications. Talk to your doctor about all of the medications you currently take, and do not start new medications without first discussing them with your doctor. Emend can decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives for up to 28 days after your last Emend dose. If you take Emend, use a back-up method, such as a condom, to prevent pregnancy. Emend also may aggravate liver disease. If you have liver disease, your doctor may need to adjust treatment dosage. Emend is not known to cause birth defects in newborns, but is not recommended for use while breastfeeding.
