How does Emend treat surgery side effects?

After surgery, some people may experience unpleasant side effects including nausea and vomiting. Emend is taken prior to surgery to prevent these side effects. Emend is an antiemetic medication. These medications stop a chemical in the brain, called neurokinin, from triggering nausea. Emend should be taken several hours prior to surgery in order to effectively prevent nausea and vomiting. It is not an effective treatment if these symptoms already exist.
