What should I avoid while taking Levemir?

Avoid drinking beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages while taking Levemir (insulin detemir). Alcohol can lower your blood sugar to dangerous levels. Avoid taking medications that make it more difficult to tell if you are hypoglycemic, such as albuterol, beta-blockers, clonidine, reserpine, and guanethidine. Talk to your doctor about changes to your diet, or before using any new medications, vitamins, or supplements along with Levemir.
