What should I avoid while taking PrandiMet?

People who take PrandiMet (repaglinide and metformin) for type 2 diabetes should avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol. Alcoholic beverages can increase the risk for developing a serious side effect called lactic acidosis.

You should also avoid the cholesterol drug gemfibrozil (Lopid) if you're on PrandiMet, because gemfibrozil affects the way your body handles the diabetes drug, boosting blood levels substantially.

While people taking PrandiMet don't have to avoid any specific foods, nutrition and other lifestyle factors play an important role in treatment. In order to get the most benefit from PrandiMet, stay on a controlled diet and exercise on a regular basis.
