What should I know about Actoplus Met before taking it?

Before taking Actoplus Met, you should know that the drug pioglitazone can cause congestive heart failure or aggravate a pre-existing congestive heart condition. Because of this risk, Actoplus Met is not recommended for people with established heart failure or symptoms of heart failure. If you notice immediate or rapid weight gain, water retention, or breathing problems after taking Actoplus Met, contact your physician. Actoplus Met has also been known, in rare cases, to cause lactic acidosis, a severe and often fatal metabolic condition that is more likely to affect older people or those with renal problems. Actoplus Met is not recommended for children.
