What are the side effects of glyburide-metformin?

Some people do not experience any side effects from glyburide-metformin, while others may have minor to serious side effects. The most common side effects that may occur while taking glyburide-metformin include diarrhea, nausea, stomach problems, runny nose, nasal congestion and headaches. Glyburide-metformin may cause changes to your blood sugar. If your blood sugar becomes too low, this is called hypoglycemia. Symptoms of hypoglyemia include: hunger, weakness, feeling unstable, irritability, increased sweating, feeling shaky, dizziness, numbness or tingling near the mouth, headaches, abrupt behavioral changes, sudden moodiness or pale skin. Left untreated, hypoglycemia can lead to extreme confusion, seizures, even a loss of consciousness. If your glucose levels drop too low and you suffer from a hypoglycemic episode there are several things you can do to bring it back up. This includes consuming a sugar source like orange juice, milk, candy or glucose gel or using an injection of glucagon. Get immediate medical help if necessary. If symptoms of high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia occur, notify your doctor. Your dose of glyburide-metformin may need to be adjusted. Symptoms of hyperglycemia include increased thirst, urination and hunger; weakness; and trouble focusing. If left untreated, hyperglycemia can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious condition that may result in coma or death. Talk to your doctor about what to do if you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. If these symptoms should become severe, seek immediate medical attention. Metformin in this drug can cause a serious condition called lactic acodisis. If you are over 80 years old; have a history of liver, heart or kidney problems; or drink large amounts of alcohol, you may be at a great risk for this rare but life-threatening condition.
