How is glipizide-metformin related to lactic acidosis?

In certain rare situations, accumulation of metformin in the body found in glipizide-metformin can cause lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis can cause depression, myalgias, trouble breathing, heart attack, kidney failure, drowsiness and stomach pain. Lactic acidosis affects .03 of every 1,000 people using metformin. Lactic acidosis results in death in 50 percent of these cases. If you experience the symptoms of lactic acidosis, you should get immediate medical help.
