Glimepiride is taken to treat type 2 diabetes. It helps control blood sugar levels by helping the body to release the hormone insulin from the pancreas.  At this time, it is not clear if glimepiride passes into breast milk. For this reason, new mothers may want to avoid using this drug. Your doctor may prescribe another medicine.
