Why is amoxapine prescribed?

Doctors prescribe amoxapine (Asendin) to treat people with major depression. Amoxapine belongs to a group of medications called tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). It works by affecting chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced. If you have been depressed for more than two weeks or have thoughts of suicide, talk with your doctor about treatment.
