When should I call my doctor if I am taking Savella?

You should call your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects while taking the fibromyalgia drug Savella (milnacipran). These include:
  • changes in mood or behavior, including suicidal thoughts or behaviors, depression, aggressive or violent behavior, anxiety, irritability, panic attacks, agitation, restlessness or trouble sleeping
  • signs of a potentially life-threatening condition known as serotonin syndrome, including agitation, hallucination, loss of consciousness, high or low blood pressure, twitching muscles or stiffness, a racing heart, sweating, fever, vomiting or diarrhea
  • allergic reactions, such as breathing troubles, rash or hives, joint pain or swelling of the face, tongue, eyes or mouth
  • seizures
  • chest pain or fast heartbeat
  • signs of low sodium (salt) levels in the blood, including headache, weakness or feeling unsteady, mental confusion or memory problems
  • flu-like symptoms, such as fever, chills, sore throat and mouth sores
  • unexplained bleeding, bruising or nosebleeds
  • pain in the upper right stomach
  • yellowing of skin or eyes
  • black tarry or red blood in stools
  • bloody vomit
You should also call your doctor if you want to stop taking Savella. Stopping this drug suddenly may cause withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor may gradually lower your dose in order to reduce the risk of problems.

Call your doctor if you want to begin taking a new medication or supplement because certain drugs and supplements may interact with Savella and cause serious side effects.

If you find out you are pregnant, call your doctor. Savella may affect your developing fetus. Together, you and your doctor can weigh the benefits and risks of continuing your treatment during pregnancy.
