What should I know about Pristiq before taking it?

Pristiq belongs to a class of antidepressants that can cause an increase in suicidal thoughts or actions in young people. A small number of children, teenagers and young adults (up to 24 years of age) who took antidepressants such as Pristiq during clinical studies became suicidal. If you notice that a person taking Pristiq is having thoughts of suicide, notify a doctor immediately. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking Pristiq, call your doctor. You should know that Pristiq may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. Ask your doctor about the safe use of alcoholic beverages while you are taking Pristiq. Alcohol can make the side effects from Pristiq worse.
