Escitalopram Oxalate is available by prescription only and is used to treat major depression. This medication is in a group called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which increase the activity of serotonin in the brain. Escitalopram Oxalate is also prescribed to treat generalized anxiety disorder.
