What is Emsam?

Emsam is the brand name for the generic drug selegiline and is for prescription use only. Emsam is an antidepressant of the monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor class and is used for the treatment of depression. It is thought to help relieve depression and improve mood by changing levels of certain chemicals, known as neurotransmitters, in the brain. With Emsam, the medication is applied in a patch form to the skin, released slowly and continuously over a period of 24 hours. The patch is changed daily.
