What is doxepin?

Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and anxiety. Sometimes the medication is prescribed to treat insomnia. Doxepin increases chemicals in the brain that control mental balance. The medication is taken orally as a tablet. Doxepin tablets are available under the brand name Silenor.
