What should I avoid while taking Tofranil?

If you are taking the antidepressant Tofranil (imipramine), you should avoid taking drugs known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Tofranil may also not be appropriate for people who take other medications, including heart medications and blood thinners, antihistamines, seizure drugs, cimetidine (an antacid), thyroid medications, other antidepressants and more. Give your doctor a complete list of all the drugs you take regularly so you can avoid potential interactions.

You also should avoid alcohol when taking Tofranil because it can make drowsiness, a common side effect of the drug, worse.
