What should I avoid while taking Savella?

While taking Savella (milnacipran), a medication prescribed to treat fibromyalgia, you should avoid taking a kind of drug known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), since the combination can cause a life-threatening reaction called serotonin syndrome. Other drugs and supplements also increase this risk, including triptans, tryptophan, St. John's wort, Tramadol, linezolid and other drugs for treating mental illness. Do not take any new medication or supplement without talking to your doctor first.

You should avoid drinking alcohol while you're on Savella because alcohol may worsen the drug's side effects.

Savella causes sleepiness, so you should avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine will affect you.
