What are the side effects of clomipramine?

Some of the most common side effects you might experience while taking clomipramine include:
  • drowsiness and fatigue
  • dry mouth or an unpleasant taste
  • gastrointestinal problems including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation
  • the "jitters" or nervousness
  • loss of interest in sex or erection problems
  • poor memory and concentration
  • headaches
  • stuffy nose
  • increased appetite and weight gain
  • blurry vision
  • insomnia or nightmares

You may find that some of these side effects, if they occur, are mild and tolerable. However, contact your doctor right away if you have these or any other unusual symptoms:
  • chest pain or pressure
  • rapid heartbeat
  • pain in the arm or shoulder
  • unexplained sweating
  • numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body
  • lightheadedness or confusion
  • loss of balance or poor speech
  • eye pain, changes in vision or swelling or redness in the eye
