How soon after starting Paxil will my symptoms improve?

You may need to take the antidepressant Paxil (paroxetine) for about a month before you notice improvements in your symptoms. Paxil treats depression by adjusting the level of the chemical serotonin in the brain. Your doctor may start you on a low dose to see how you respond to the drug, and gradually raise the amount you take (changing the dose no more than once a week) until you're getting the maximum benefit possible and the fewest side effects.
