What are the complications associated with Pristiq?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

Pristiq can cause two potentially fatal syndromes. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is marked by fever, muscle stiffness, disorientation, abnormal heartbeat, and sweating. Serotonin syndrome can occur while taking Pristiq and is more likely when the drug is taken in combination with certain other drugs. These complications occur when your body has a negative reaction to the serotonin or norepinephrine that are in Pristiq.
